Need a hand with Teleprompter? Email support@saltypanda.com. Include your device model, operating-system version, app version and what happened. A short description or screenshot usually helps. Leave out private script text or recordings unless you want to share them.
Availability and devices
The iPhone and iPad app is in TestFlight beta while we gather feedback and prepare its public App Store release. This page is also for beta testers. Some setup controls and take deletion are being added in the next beta; available options depend on your installed version.
The mobile app requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. Recording needs a physical iPhone or iPad with a front camera. The separate Mac public preview requires macOS 26 or later on an Apple silicon MacBook with a built-in display. Its source and build instructions are on GitHub.
Make your first recording
- Open the script library and create a script, or import a plain-text file. Choose the script you want to read.
- Use the app full screen. Tap Align with camera, choose the edge with your front camera and adjust the lens position. Save the alignment. Repeat it if you change orientation and the prompt needs adjusting.
- Open Prompt settings. Choose 3–6 visible lines, then adjust panel width and text size until every line fits comfortably.
- Tap Enable camera and allow camera and microphone access. Choose a recording format supported by your device. Start with Timed scrolling and a comfortable speed.
- Tap Record video. When you finish, tap Stop recording and wait for the take to save. Pausing the prompt only pauses the words; the video keeps recording until you stop it.
- Open Takes to play the recording. Choose Save to Photos or Share or save to Files when you want a separate copy.
Set up voice follow
Voice follow is optional and currently uses English recognition. In AI voice follow settings, prepare Apple Speech or download Moonshine, Parakeet or Whisper before recording. Apple Speech requests Speech Recognition permission. Select a ready engine, then use AI voice follow for scrolling.
Downloads need an internet connection and extra storage for installation. Recognition runs on the device after setup. Moonshine is the smallest listed download; Whisper is the largest and may use more memory or fall behind during recording. Speed, heat and battery use depend on your device.
If the words stop following you, pause and find your place. Check the selected engine and its status, try a smaller model, or switch to Timed scrolling. A voice-follow error does not automatically stop the video. Check the recording control before leaving the screen.
Camera or microphone will not start
Check Teleprompter’s camera and microphone permissions in the iPhone or iPad Settings app. If a permission was denied, enable it there and return to Teleprompter. Apple Speech permission is separate from microphone permission.
Recording is unavailable in Simulator. On iPad, use the app full screen so the prompt can line up with the camera. If the app says the selected lines do not fit, reduce the text size or rotate the device. Camera formats and controls depend on the front camera in your device.
Save, share and remove takes
A completed take stays in the app until you delete it or remove the app’s data. Save to Photos asks for permission to add the video. If that permission is denied or export fails, the original take remains in Takes. Try Share or save to Files, or change the Photos permission in Settings.
Deleting a video from Takes leaves exported copies in Photos, Files and other apps. Check those destinations separately. Export recordings and scripts you want to keep before uninstalling the mobile app.
If recording is interrupted, reopen Takes. The app tries to recover pending recordings and tells you if a file could not be recovered. Recovery is not guaranteed. Keep enough free storage and wait for a take to finish saving before starting another one.
Scripts and the Mac preview
Your script library, reading positions and settings are local to each device. Import and export plain-text files to move scripts between devices. There is no Teleprompter account or automatic library sync. Moving a script to Trash keeps it available for restoration.
On Mac, Teleprompter supplies a floating reading panel. Use your usual camera or screen-recording app to capture video. The Mac app does not record video itself. Microphone permission is needed for voice follow, and optional speech models download separately.
Privacy and licenses
Read Teleprompter privacy for camera, microphone, local storage, downloads and sharing details. See terms and licensing for the App Store agreement and the existing Teleprompter source license. Model and library notices are available in the app.
